Snapatar lets you update your Twitter profile picture using your webcam. Simply snap a picture, fill out your Twitter details and send the new image to Twitter. You can do this as often as you like. Your creativity is the limit.
Of course you can also use Snapatar to create your first avatar image when you first join Twitter. It's probably the easiest way to get rid of that horrible default image.
Go to the snapatar.com homepage. The Flash plugin will ask you whether it can access the camera. Click 'Allow' and start smiling. Click the 'Snap!' button until you're happy with the result.
All you need to do to upload the new image is fill out your Twitter usename and password and click the big yellow 'Send to Twitter!' button. If you don't want to send a tweet about the update, deselect the 'Send notification tweet' checkbox before you do.
| Mirror mode, makes it easier to position yourself by flipping the image. | |
| Self-timer, pressing this button gives you a five second delay before a picture is snapped. |
You'll need a computer that has a browser and the Flash Player plugin installed. And it's very little fun without a webcam too.
Please use the settings button (the little wrench in the upper left corner) to select the right camera. This applies to some PC users too.
The short answer is yes! Snapatar was built using Flash, which makes OAuth a little more complicated to implement. Snapatar does not store your password in any way or share it with anyone.
We need your twitter details to upload your new image(s). We don't store your password, and never will. We respect your privacy, and we hate spam as much as you do. We do however monitor this website's usage to figure out how we can improve things and find bugs we need to fix.
Snapatar is a this.play idea. The website was built with the help of Bernalyn Internet Services. You can of course follow us on Twitter. Please direct any feedback or questions you may have at snapatar.
